|SOCIO-DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILE AND OUTCOME OF METHANOL POISONING & STUDY OF 60 CASES ADMITTED IN MEDICAL INDOOR OF A TEACHING HOSPITAL|

Methanol has arisen as a fatal poisonous agent taking a great role of our population. We have less experience in the management of methanol poisoning. 60 cases of methanol poisoning admitted consecutively in medical indoor of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on 7th and 8th May, 1999 were included in this study. Out of 60 cases all (100%) were male and age ranged form 20-60 years, maximum number of patients (91.6%) were within 31-35 years. A considerable number of patients were married (62.5%), 13 (32.5%) were unmarried and only 02(5%) were divorced. Majority of patients (75%) were from low income group (75%) and others were from middle (22.5%) and only 01 (2.5%) from high income group. Methanol consumer were commonly (70%) from primary education group, 27.5% from secondary education group and very negligible (2.5%) from higher education group.
